The name Roleystone originates from land that was purchased in 1860 by Thomas Buckingham. He opted to start a sawmill business in 1865 that was situated at Sparrow’s Place, which was later called Butcher’s. Roleystone got subdivided into small farms to let later in 1902 and developed into orchards and market gardens subsequently. It was then opened up in 1905 for closer settlement, with brochures for property extolling the values of fertile valley soils and beautiful scenery. This area has native bushland and fruit orchards.
